Teaching & Learning Onboarding and Training Experience

Lake Tahoe Community College

Welcome from Scott

Getting Started

Hello and welcome to Lake Tahoe Community College. The faculty, classified staff, and administration are excited to have you teaching for us. Whether you are teaching in the face-to-face (F2F), distance education (DE), or incarcerated student program (ISP) modalities, we all hope that you will find your experience a meaningful one. We are all here to help, so do not hesitate to reach out to a fellow full- or part-time faculty member, a classified staff member, administrator, or even a student as you begin your journey at our college. The resources found in this training are designed for the new LTCC faculty member, but you may find that the many videos, links, and handy tips are useful for the seasoned faculty member as well.

In this current form, this LTCC Teaching and Learning Onboarding Experience includes over 100 videos and over 200 unique pages of content and links. Most of the content areas, such as this page, include a video component. These videos are intended to provide key overviews of the major areas in this onboarding experience, so in order to benefit fully from the experience, be sure to watch the content videos.

The structure of the onboarding experience includes a Begin Here, Welcome, and Introduction section that explain the foundations of the experience; a New Faculty - First Steps section that is intended to provide special information for those of you who have been newly hired; an LTCC 101 segment, which highlights most of the people, offices, resources, forms, situations, and contexts that could be thought of; a Teaching at LTCC - The Basics area that covers all the pertinent areas of the faculty life (from course rosters to final grades); a Face-to-Face (F2F) Track, that is designed to give you all you need to know about in-person instruction; Distance Education (DE) Track and DE Blocks tracks that emphasizes the unique aspects of online instruction using our Canvas LMS (Learning Management System); an Incarcerated Student Program (ISP) Track, that discusses the ins and outs of teaching in our ISP; an EVE or Enhanced Virtual Education information section; a Workshops section, that features videos of our many on-campus faculty trainings (all of which you can participate in virtually or watch the video archives of the trainings); a Professional Development segment focused on opportunities for salary and career advancement, as well as professional development opportunities; and a Documents section that will provide links to important documents like the Faculty Contract and the College Catalog.  Please use the menu at the top of the page for the Web-version or the Modules feature within the Canvas version (or click on Home to access the Canvas menu).

Good Luck!

Please note that the LTCC Teaching and Learning Onboarding Experience includes a Web-based version (www.ltccteachingandlearning.com) and a Canvas shell. Essentially, the two are nearly identical in context, with the exception of some onboarding discussion boards on the Canvas site. If you are new and need access to the Canvas shell, please contact me and I will get you started. The idea for two versions is to provide some opportunities for new faculty to participate in the private arena of Canvas and offer some resources for veteran faculty who would like quick and easy access to the videos, links, and other content resources. Whatever your reason for visiting, please do not hesitate to reach out to me for any assistance that you may require. Thanks, welcome, and good luck!
